A common mini-argument between me and my boyfriend is over the length of time each of us spends playing a particular game. I'm personally pretty slow, preferring to spend a lot of time on one– RPGs are the worst, I have to make sure I've completed every possible side quest and mini-event or I can't continue along the main line. If I'm playing a FPS, I have to wander into every single room and make sure no stones are left unturned before I get to the final boss. If I'm enjoying myself I like to pace it out and take my time. Like reading a good book, I want it to last as long as I can.
My boyfriend, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. While he probably covers the same amount of content as I do, he manages to condense it into a fraction of the time, blasting his way through a forty-hour game in ten– Blue Dragon is thus far the longest I've ever seen him spend on a game (it took him about two weeks of rather constant play) and by the time he was finished with it you would have thought he'd been tortured.
I go slow enough that I generally have a constant backlog of games to play. By the time I finish or need a break from one it's pretty rare that I don't have something else to choose from. He, however, usually does not, and finds himself bored when those lulls and downtimes come along.
There's obviously no right or wrong way to do it, it's a matter of taste. But it got me wondering what's common– do most people hurry through games as fast as they can, take their time, or range somewhere in the middle?
