A common mini-argument between me and my boyfriend is over the length of time each of us spends playing a particular game. I'm personally pretty slow, preferring to spend a lot of time on one– RPGs are the worst, I have to make sure I've completed every possible side quest and mini-event or I can't continue along the main line. If I'm playing a FPS, I have to wander into every single room and make sure no stones are left unturned before I get to the final boss. If I'm enjoying myself I like to pace it out and take my time. Like reading a good book, I want it to last as long as I can.
The current MMOG landscape is monopolized by orcs-and-wizards RPGs, so when a developer comes up with something outside that mold I'm always excited. Battleswarm: Field of Honor, a hybrid multiplayer FPS/RTS being developed in part by Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell through Reality Gap, started its open beta on Tuesday. Kotaku has an extremely thought-provoking op-ed piece up about the representation of minorities in video games. While they don't mention LGBT characters (disappointingly) as well, the parallels they draw can easily be applied to our community too. There's a lot to be made about the lack of LGBT characters in video games, and when they [...]

While both have so far received high praise from reviewers, it's the latter title that's attracting controversy over the inclusion of late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain as a playable character. While The Beatles are [...]
I am extremely thrilled to write a quick note announcing that I got invited to sign on as a writer for GayGamer.net, a popular and long-running blog focused towards the LGBT gamer. I started officially today and my first entry was published a couple hours ago. I'm very excited about it; it's an extension of [...]
Open beta, head-start and launch day events have all come and gone for Champions Online and at last the game is released and live. In between healing 10-man Ulduar and entertaining my boyfriend's visiting mother I've been feverishly leveling various superheroes now that they won't be nuked. Overall my earlier enthusiasm for the MMOG is [...]
Indie games hold a place in my heart near and dear; while the quality can sometimes be lackluster compared to titles released by the big guys, this isn't always the case. Recent games like World of Goo and Braid have been critically-acclaimed hits, both because of their quirky uniqueness and because of what they said [...]
