Since leaving the US and moving to Australia last year, I've had to get used to a lot of differences between the two countries that I really didn't know about before I packed up: sitting in the front seat next to the driver when you get into a cab, being fourteen hours into the future compared to the rest of my family, the way the entirety of the Commonwealth pronounces fillet like "fill-it." Chief among my culture shock is how comparatively poor internet connectivity is here against what I was used to in the United States. Overall speeds tend to be pretty lackluster and latency is a huge issue, especially when playing online games and MMOGs.
Open beta, head-start and launch day events have all come and gone for Champions Online and at last the game is released and live. In between healing 10-man Ulduar and entertaining my boyfriend's visiting mother I've been feverishly leveling various superheroes now that they won't be nuked. Overall my earlier enthusiasm for the MMOG is [...]

I've been running instances more regularly and "raiding" as the kids say and I have actually been enjoying it. The guild I joined is half of a larger guild that [...]
Last week the gaming news sites were discussing the revelation that Sony had inserted advertising post-launch in its futuristic-themed racing game WipEout HD. The biggest furor over this was the fact that the advertising was not present when the game initially came out (it was delivered via a patch after launch) and it was extremely [...]
Over the weekend I made good on my decision to close down my business venture within Second Life. After setting all my products for free during the last couple of days, I held an impromptu gathering of people for some quick words and the catastrophic destruction of the sim that I realized was almost a [...]
So, Electronic Arts makes a game. 1. To advertise this game, which is some riff off of Dante's Inferno, they craft a series of publicity stunts around the various circles of Hell and sins and so on/so forth. One of these involves a comic book convention, Comic-Con, where EA tells horny guys people to take [...]
October will hold the fifth anniversary of when I joined Second Life under the name I came to refer to as my "main" account. I dabbled in it under various other identities prior to that but I never understood what it was really for and would often get bored after a few minutes (or an [...]
