What happened to the dream of episodic content?
What happened to the dream of episodic content?

When Half Life 2: Episode One was announced, it was with the promise of things will be different this time. Fans, many of whom remembered all too well the bizarre turmoil of delay after delay for Half Life 2, were afraid of waiting another six years for the third segment of the series, and the phrase 'Episode One' conjured with it all manner of ethereal promises: chief among them being "faster releases and cheaper games." In practice, however, this hasn't been the case, and increasingly, it's looking as if Half Life 2: 'Episodes' will have taken the same amount of time to go to shelves as it took for Half Life 2 in the first place, but with a total game playtime a fraction of the length of Half Life 2.

Review: Bayonetta
Review: Bayonetta

Bayonetta has rode at the front of a steady wave of hype for months; getting a prestigious 40/40 (at least for the Xbox 360 version) from Famitsu, it was intriguing to see if the game itself would really live up to the buzz perpetuated by its oversexed and over-the-top advertising budget. There's no denying that Bayonetta is a visual feast for any heterosexuals who have a fetish for Amazonian women with mismatched bodily proportions, but I was a little incredulous as to whether or not there would be any substance in the game itself for those of us who aren't playing it just to see Bayonetta take off her hair suit.

Videogames are created by Satan
Videogames are created by Satan

It's a little difficult to tell where the line between hyperbole and seriousness is, but in this piece on The Orange County Register, Marla Jo Fisher begins her story declaring, "I truly believe that video games were created by Satan to turn otherwise normal children into his drooling, glassy-eyed stooges."

On feminine representation in 'The Void'
On feminine representation in 'The Void'

After reading a review of The Void that accused the game of being sexist against women, I decided to dig further and explain why I feel such a comment is way off the mark. Any players drawn to the game by the promise of virtual characters would be disappointed in just how non-sexual the game actually is, and the realization that all the nudity has a point. Warning, there's a lot of NSFW content herein.

Face of Mankind MMOG finally gets a release
Face of Mankind MMOG finally gets a release

Face of Mankind was an in-development MMOG I remember nostalgically from my halcyon days of 2004 – 2005, where I spent many a Google query searching for games to play online. It was an interesting concept; a FPS MMOG focused less around grinding for levels and more about roleplay (as in, creating characters and backstories yourself) and teamwork. I got into the closed or open beta at some point and puttered around the game world, soaking in the mechanics of the environment around me. It's a bit tricky to remember the extent of the game's features so far back, but I do remember being blown away at the potential.

Review: The Void
Review: The Void

The Void is an atmospheric action/adventure game by Russian developer Ice-Pick Lodge. In the game you play the role of a lost soul that has arrived in the Void after death; the Void is a purgatory-like existence between living and absolute death, and as a soul you roam through surrealistic zones on a quest to eventually regain your living existence and return to the real world.

Out.com's "gayest" video games list
Out.com's "gayest" video games list

Out.com, the official website for Out Magazine, has recently published their list of the "gayest" video games. Looking over their selections, I have to say their choices are a little… interesting. And by interesting I mean, in fact, that this list would at first glance appear to be compiled by a gaggle of frat boys giggling over their collection of eBay'd NES cartridges.
